Mommies Makin’ Moves
Today’s modern woman is defeating all odds by balancing life as a mother while making business moves. Taking care of a family isn’t easy nor is establishing a brand but those who can juggle it all (ahem, where’s our superwoman cape) need the recognition they deserve so the world can see we definitely rule the world! Turning passions into a profession is something we all hope to one day achieve. I know someone who turned their passion for makeup into a business and trust me ladies, this girl is at the top of her makeup game and it’s only going up from here. Everyone meet mommy to 1 1/2 year-old Josiah and makeup artist, Ashley Tolliver.
I had some questions for Ashley about her brand and the inspiration behind her makeup creations, here’s what she had to say.
*When did you start doing makeup?
I’ve always played around with makeup since I was a teenager. I
started doing makeup professionally in 2011.
*Where do you draw inspiration from when creating looks?
For clients I try to keep everyone looking red carpet-ish. Not overly
done and great looking skin. I draw inspiration from Pinterest, social
media, celebrities, and other makeup artist.
*What are your favorite brands of makeup?
Some of my absolute favorite brands are Black Opal, Milani, NYX, MAC.
It’s hard to name them all I love different brands for different
things. I am all over the place!
*What can’t you go without in your purse?
I will have lip liners in my purse before I have a pen to write with!
My priorities are messed up lol!
*If you were on a deserted island, what 5 makeup products you’d need with you?
On a dessert island I would need my Mac Brow pencil in Spiked, Loreal
Paris Creme eyeliner in black, MAC In Extreme Dimension Mascara, NYX
matte setting spray, Nyx Espresso lip liner.
*Where do you see your brand in the next 5 years?
In the next 5 years?!?! OMG I’m just trying to make it through
tomorrow! My business partner Brittany McKinnon and I will have our
beauty Bar. It will be the premier destination for beauty services and
accessories in the Detroit & greater Detroit area. I want to be like
Drake “Else is there besides me?” For beauty!
I had the honor of Ashley doing my makeup for my birthday. It was such a great experience! She’s a down to earth girl who loves to laugh. She stayed with the makeup theme I had for birthday and did it just the way I wanted it. The makeup didn’t make me look like another person but it brought out my natural beauty. Ashley explained the idea behind my makeup and products she used to achieve the look.
“The idea behind our birthday glam session was West Story Shawty! I
decided to go with very fresh looking skin. For the brows we used MAC
brow pencil in Spiked. I primed the eye lids with Mac Paint Pot Layin
Low to give our eyeshadow staying power. Eyes lid was from Mac
Cosmetics Tan Pigment and crease color was Soft Brown Eyeshow. We
lined the eyes with NYX Cosmetics Gel Cream Eyeliner in Black.
Foundation was Black Opal Even True Foundation in Hazelnut. Concealer
was MAC Pro Long wear in NC 42. I used Black Opal Medium Powder to
highlight and MAC cosmetics Blush in Blunt to contour. Lips were lined
with Mac Cherry Lip Liner and filled with Wet N Wild Mega Blast
Lipstick in Stoplight Red. I used Mac’s Naked lunch eye shadow on
bridge of nose, ball of chin, and cheeks to give a radiant dewy glow.
We finished the skin with NYX Cosmetics Dewy Spray.”
I got so many compliments about my makeup (and my outfit was styled by me of course…shameless plug LOL). I was so pleased with it that I didn’t want to wash it off. My husband fell in love with my makeup as well, and since he knows nothing about makeup he thought I was supposed to leave it on for a couple of days (side eye). I recommend Ashley to those who want a great look that enhances your natural beauty. If you want to dip and dab into makeup, she’s holding a makeup class on Saturday, April 25th at 3:00pm, you can find more about The Ultimate Beauty Class with a click on this link. Ashley is definitely a living example that we as mothers an definitely do it all!
I’ve also provided more pics from models she has gotten Tuh-gether (her favorite phrase) below.
